Amilcar Bosco do Perpetuo Socorro Madhana da Costa was born in Panaji, Goa, on the 1st of July 1948. Right from childhood he liked to draw/paint and was successful in this art at the school. His father, Aleixo Manuel da Costa and his mother Olga Dina Vas, both encouraged him in this field.
Beginning 1975 he decided with his neighbour Ivo Guia Furtado to create an art school at home for children interested in learning to paint. The school was named "L'Ecole d'Art". However, following an opportunity to migrate to Belgium in April 1975, Amilcar had to close down the school, which was still at the preliminary stage.
In Belgium he followed painting night classes for a period of 5 years at RHOK, a Flemish Art Academy. He had Jan Beekman and ___ as teachers. He also did a one-year course at the "Academy d'Ixelles".
His close contact with Francine Vonsovski, a famous Belgian painting restorer, helped him in the development of his art.

FUTURE EXHIBITION:
Amilcar da Costa will be holding in 2010 an oil painting exhibition on the clippers used by the Portuguese maritime discoverers.
This site will give more details about the exhibition, to be held in Brussels, as early as possible. The aim of the exhibition is to provide the art fans with reproductions of the original caravellas used by individual Portuguese maritime discoverers, putting them in stormy seas.
